Group Geocaching
GeoTrek specializes in
organizing group geocaching events. Whether
you are new to geocaching or a seasoned veteran, GeoTrek can
guarantee a fun and exciting new experience.
GeoTrek can set up a
pre-arranged cache hunt at its maintained cache field near
Orland Park (Illinois). GeoTrek’s cache field is located in a
large wooded area that is known for its challenging
topography…that means there’s lots of hills and ravines.
There’s even a small river that runs through it.
Prior
to the start of the event, GeoTrek experts hide caches in the
woods. After a short orientation on the technology and proper use of GPS,
“trekkers” are free to begin their treasure hunt. A typical
geocaching event takes about two hours.
GeoTrek can
set up a geocache event for corporate sponsors, civic organizations or
private parties. Event dates
must be planned at least one week in advance based on date availability.
The cost for a 2 hour
group geocaching event is $125.00 which includes the rental of 10
GPS units and 10 hidden caches.
Chartered Scouting
organizations will receive a 20% discount ($25 off) for any
group geocaching event.
Geocaching events must be scheduled at least one
week in advance of the event. A deposit of $50.00 is
required to secure a calendar date; the balance of payment must
be made on the day of the geocaching event.
Rentals will be made to
adults 21 and older only. Participants under the age of 12
years old must be accompanied by an adult. Personal injury
waivers must be signed by all participants –regardless of age.
Sponsoring group will be
held liable for
any loss of,
or damage to, GPS units.
Full refunds will be made
on cancellations made three or more days in advance of the event
(i.e. by 9:00pm Wednesday for a Saturday event). Cancellations
made less than three days prior to the event will result in
forfeiture of 50% of deposit ($25.00). Failure to cancel an
event will result in forfeiture of full deposit ($50.00).
GeoTrek cannot be held
responsible for adverse weather conditions. Weather forecasts
should be monitored and decisions should be made accordingly.
Relevant to weather conditions, appropriate clothing and
footwear should also be considered.

Cache Types
Activity Caches
are ones for which the finder completes the task found within
the cache.
Progressive Caches
usually contain waypoint coordinates for the next in a
progression of caches.
Treasure Caches
contain items that the finder may keep; the “treasure” is
provided by the event sponsoring group.
Virtual Caches
are permanent locations; i.e. a monument or a grave would be a
virtual cache.
Other
creative Geocaching ideas from GeoTrek:
Johnny Cache
is a high tech version of the old hide ‘n’ seek. One person
with a GPS unit –call him “Johnny”-- hides and transmits his
location coordinates to a second person with a GPS unit, who
then has to find Johnny. A pair of Cell phones or
walkie-talkies are needed to play this game.
Capture the Cache
is a high tech version of the old favorite “Capture the Flag”.
Using caches hidden by two or more groups of people, opposing
teams must find each other team’s cache first by using GPS
coordinates.
